Another community organizer!!  Charlotte shared her work with the group Stand for Children as a community organizer in Massachusetts.  In Framingham, Massachusetts, families had organized because they were concerned about cuts to the school budget.  As they worked together to understand the school budget process, they learned that there were 48 vacant seats on the 200 plus “Town Meeting” elected body that votes on the school budget.  Interestingly, very few parents of children in the schools were part of Town Meeting.  They launched a campaign of outreach, recruitment, training and support to encourage parents to run.

65 new parents were elected to Framingham’s Town Meeting and bring their voices to the school budget.

Stand for Children works to connect what is happening at the school to local city and state level.
