Recruiting High Quality Teachers

This  report from McKinsey focuses on what it would take to attract and retain teachers from among the “top third” of graduates.  Their recommendations include increasing compensation, prestige, peers, professional development, school leadership, and working conditions.  Why the “top third?”  McKinsey’s analysis suggests that the leading educational systems (Finland, Singapore, South Korea) draw teachers from a highly selective pool.

This eClassroom news article summarizes the report. “Individual school districts, charter schools, and states could partner with universities, teacher unions, entrepreneurs, and the U.S. Department of Education to devise and implement strategies that guarantee effective teachers are the norm, and not the exception.”
